This wine needs breathing time to open up and reveal its concentrated core of cherry fruit, mixed berries, toast and spice. It shows the complexity of the best Oregon pinots, with a light earthy streak under hints of root and soil. Flavors gain strength through the finish, suggesting that this is a wine to cellar for some years. Paul Gregutt, TST
The A&G Estate Vineyard is located in the Red Hills of Dundee, Oregon, and is named for Gary and his lifelong friend, Anthony Maratea. It was planted in 1998 primarily to Dijon clones 115, 667,777 and Pommard. This vineyard lies on a southeast facing slope and consists of the volcanic Jory soil red in color, as the region’s name implies. The vineyards were trained on the trellis to the single guyot system on one cane and one spur, and were green harvested after veraison to one cluster per shoot.
