One of the noblest of Alsace grapes, it produces full, viscous, richly fruity style, often with alush aftertaste. Its great depth is balanced by the crisp that gives structure and longevity. A slight smokiness, combined with underlying delicacy, is a typical trait.
The Trimbach 2003 Pinot Gris Reserve was vinified to complete dryness, with very little residual sugar. The wine was fermented in stainless steel vats with no oak aging. Botling was done in the spring of 2004 to preserve freshness and aging capability.
This classical example of Pinot Gris is probably one of their best. Rich and fragant, the wine is very ripe and harmonious in style, with juicy yellow peach and ripe pear on the nose. It is full-bodied with ripe, smoky, tropical fruit flavors and a long, slightly nutty finish.
Food Match: This wine comes into its own with terrines, foie gras, smoked fish, fish in sauce (notably salmon), and white meats.
