Southern Pleasures!
We dedicate the March edition to the wines that grow between the 30○ and 50○ southern parallel, a region that has physically expanded in recent years due to the tireless quest of winemakers in search of soils and environments that can imprint distinct personalities in their wines.
A few myths still linger when it comes to the vineyards of Argentina, Chile, Australia, New Zealand and South Africa. Probably the most spreaded is the myth of eternal vine youth, "no old vineyards". Old vines do exist in all these countries and the wines they produce is the true benchmark of site and variety personality.
That goes along the lines of "no history", when in reality, winemaking and viticultural operations can be traced to nearly 500 years. True, the last two decades have been of paramount importance to their worldly achievements, but their efforts have forced some winemaking revisions even in the "traditional, purists and gated" circles, if not for their grand labels, for the second and everyday bottlings.
Moreover, they have invested and rooted in the southern plateaus, mountains and rolling vineyards. The result is a fantastic array of wines at all price points ($750 to $11 you will find among our selections), that makes wine the delightful drink of choice for many enthusiasts as well as being able to surprise the worldliest of palates.
We have selected a few more than 40 labels for this edition's tastings proposals. Some you will be familiar with, some will be a surprise to discover. To entice your tasting buds, all 40 are offered at a special price for a limited only.
