“This wine is a blend of the five classic red Bordeaux varieties, with Cabernet Sauvignon augmented by smaller amounts of Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Malbec, and Petit Verdot. It offers fragrant aromas of plums, blackberry jam, black pepper, clove and toasted oak. Medium bodied, the palate displays flavors of blackberries, raspberries and currants with rich chocolate on the finish. Reseña de cata: Lar de Paula y Altos de Rioja
El pasado sábado 24 de septiembre catamos en The Greenhouse tres vinos de Lar de Paula y cuatro de Altos de Rioja, degustación que resultó muy amena e informativa ya que la anfitriona de la cata, Angela García, acababa de recibir el informe de vendimia según comenzaba a transcurrir en la Rioja Alavesa, zona de la cual provienen los vinos de estas dos jovenes bodegas.
De Lar de Paula probamos el Tempranillo 2009, el Crianza 2007 y el Reserva 2005, uno de los favoritos de la degustación. En común tienen un perfil claramente moderno, pero con un toque clásico en el sentido en que la fruta aunque joven y expresiva, se ofrece muy balanceada con los grados de alcohol y acidez en cada caso.
De Altos de Rioja probamos el Tempranillo 2008, el Crianza 2007, el Reserva 2005 y el Pigeage 2007. Esta bodega opera bajo la dirección de Jean-Marc Sauboua (Ch Haut Brion) quien busca dar a estas etiquetas una personalidad con clase, incluso para el joven Tempranillo. El Pigeage es una elaboración especial con un 10% de Graciano y una crianza de quince meses en roble francés, interesante, con fruta bien lograda pero que aún requiere de unos añitos para redondear los taninos de la madera.

Nueva añada: Caymus Napa Valley Cabernet 2009

Caymus has long been one of the standard bearers for silky, yet powerful Napa Cabernet Sauvignon. In a great vintage, they can be spectacular, and the 2009 is one of the best vintages we’ve tasted since the legendary 2004. This brand new release has yet to be rated, but when it does, watch out – the scores are bound to be high. Wine Spectator rated the 2009 vintage for Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 94-97 points.
James Laube in Wine Spectator writes about the 2009 vintage, stating: “Napa’s biggest money grape, Cabernet Sauvignon, enjoyed the same ideal growing conditions until October, when a pair of strong storms dumped enough rain to worry growers. Those who picked before the storms were excited about the young wine’s color, flavor, acids and tannins. But those who waited out the deluge faced a mixed bag. One of the wineries that gambled was Caymus, which saw both sides of the coin.
Scarlet color and brackish edges. Nose is sweet fruit and smoked meats. This wine already has some bouquet- truffle mushrooms, vanilla style oak. The palate is creamy richness with nuances of leather and a cocoa-style fine grain tannin. The flavors and structure of this vintage are consistent with the Caymus style - spice, toast, cassis - fully rich, yet supple.

“A good wine, with jammy Cabernet flavors of blackberries, cassis and savory spices. It’s fairly low in alcohol, with a brisk, clean scour, but tannic and astringent. Feels immature even at the age of nearly five years, but it should develop. Give it another six years.”
The 2006 Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon is a complex and refined wine that develops beautifully in the glass to reveal multi-layered nuances of aromas. It has a dark ruby color and an enticing nose of cassis, black truffles and violets. On the palate, the wine has an elegant attack and bursts with flavors of fresh forest fruit, potpourri and Asian spices. It has a long finish with smooth well-integrated tannins. With proper cellaring it should give drinking pleasure through 2026.
Our 2006 Napa Valley, a blend of wine from vineyards throughout the appellation, is 81% Cabernet Sauvignon, 11% Merlot, 5% Cabernet Franc and 3% Petit Verdot. We blended the vineyard lots in early 2007 and transferred the wine to 100% new American oak barrels for aging. Blending prior to barreling allows us to achieve a balance of the wine’s primary elements, such as fruit and tannin, before they are influenced by oak. The wine was then aged in barrel for approximately 25 months and another 20 months in bottle to harmonize its components before release.

Kreydenweiss’s 2007 Pinot Blanc Kritt represents, as always, a blend of roughly equal parts Auxerrois and true Pinot Blanc (and labeled also as “Les Charmes”) Fresh apple and pumpkin with raw almond scent this Kritt and inform its silken textured, palpably extract-rich palate, joined by hints of chalk and savory salinity in its saliva-inducing, refreshing finish. Drink 2010 - 2015.
Marc Kreydenweiss es reconocido por el refinamiento y el magnífico carácter que logra transmitir a cada uno de los vinos. Su viticultura es 100% biodinámica y la bodega constituye uno de los estandartes de calidad de Alsace, donde el tema de identidad es parte de la idiosincrasia regional.
Nueva bodega: Corimbo by Roda, Ribera del Duero | $37.75
Corimbo Crianza 2008
Corimbo 2008 es el nuevo vino de Bodegas RODA en Ribera del Duero, donde han creado su nueva bodega en la zona de La Horra. Es un vino elaborado 100% de uvas Tempranillo y criado 12 meses en barricas de roble francés y americano.
Muy expresivo e intenso con marcado carácter frutal por encima de la madera, que resulta casi imperceptible. Cerezas, moras y notas de especies secas como la pimienta negra se mezclan con acentos minerales en la gama de tierra fresca. En boca es fluído, con taninos pulidos, buen volumen y final muy fresco.
Este es el lanzamiento del proyecto en la Ribera del Duero de la laureada bodega de Rioja RODA, cuyos vinos Roda Reserva, Roda I y su gran vino guarda Cirsión han posicionado la bodega entre las más prominentes de Rioja.
